Great Lecture in Social Media Marketing

Social Media

Today I attended a guest lecture with the Social Media Marketing Online Manager Ib Potter, and it was a truly highlight of the day. The guest lecture was for once not arranged by myself, but the university, and I must admit that they had done a good job.

Ib Potter was visiting Aarhus University Institute of Business and Technology to speak about Onine Marketing and how he in his job promotes websites to be number one on Google. As a beginning mr. Potter took the time to explain the difference between web 1.0 and web 2.0 and keywords like: Mass communication, HTML, Wires, Owning, Communities, XML, Peer to peer, Blog, Tags, Wireless, and sharing was mentioned. The main difference of the two definitions came down to one quote:

“Web 2.0 is not a collection of monologs – but lots of dialogs.” – Originally said by someone?

Ib Potter was talking a lot about joining the right party, and what he meant by that, was that there were no reason for communicating to an audience that were not a part of your target group. One of the great things about social media is that you have the opportunity to be very specific and target your announcements and content to the people that actually is interested.

A difference from the old fashion marketing and online marketing is that mass communication is simply not efficient, and Ib highlighted that Social Media was all about engagement. To make your costumers by you need to engage with them, because modern consumers want to feel that they get a custom treatment and the social media’s such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, offer these opportunities.

Before Ib Potter ended his lecture he encouraged everyone to get a blog, if they did not already have one. The golden thing about a blog is that you as the owner is 100% in control, and mange what to be published and what not to be published. Because the fact is that the web is much more used by managers to research a person before giving the person a job. By having a blog where all your activities are joined, it makes it much easier for the employer to see why you are the right person for the job.

The Lecture was really great and it inspired me to join the right party and to do even better with AlexanderHold.com. Also it gave me the motivation to increase my social network on twitter.com/alexanderhold
